Thank you to all our sponsors, anglers, and volunteers for another successful Flounder Bowl.
Congratulations to 1st place winner Justin Sipe of the Extreme Rehab. They weighed in at 12.91 pounds. In addition to winning the Flounder Bowl, they also won the 3-Fish Calcutta for total earnings of $7,340.
The 2016 Flounder Bowl is in the books. This annual event is hosted by the Peninsula Salt Water Sport Fisherman’s Association, held at Dare Marina and Yacht Sales, and is only made possible by great sponsor support. Cool, northeast winds made it very pleasant on land for a barbecue at the captains meeting Friday night and at the seafood party Sunday afternoon. The wind did not make for great fishing conditions out on the water. With the breezy conditions and a fairly lackluster flounder bite, many boats decided not to fish. A total of 57 boats entered the competition. They universally reported that fishing was tough.
The Peninsula Salt Water Sport Fisherman’s Association is once again hosting Virginia’s premier flounder fishing tournament, the "Flounder Bowl," but please note that we have changed our format. This year Captain’s will have the option of selecting which day they will fish, Saturday, June 25, 2016 or Sunday June 26, 2016. This event will allow Virginia’s best anglers to meet and participate in tournament festivities as well as compete for bragging rights for the title “2016 Bay Champion” and Captains will also be able to select the most convenient fishing day for their boat and crew. Anglers will also be competing for a guaranteed $5,000 first place prize made possible by the support of local businesses / sponsors.
The tournament will be held out of Dare Marina, Yorktown, VA. (www.daremarina.com). Boats will be allowed to fish from any port but the fish must be brought to Dare Marina (by car or boat) for Weigh In. Tournament participants will be provided with free entertainment, food and beverages at the Captain's Meeting (Friday, June 24, 2016) and after Sunday’s Weigh In on the 26th. The only activity on Saturday will be the weigh in of fish caught that day.
***At least one representative from each boat must attend the Captains Meeting.
